For hot action on big speckled trout in cold water, fish slowly. Frigid temperatures decrease the metabolic rate of cold-blooded fish so they don’t chase baits as far or as fast. For this reason, use baits that hover in the water column or slowly sink. Jigheads worked along the bottom can also work, but nothing works on big specks in cold water like live baitfish.
